RoI for ITSM Process Implementations

One of the key questions we do have, while doing consulting assignments for the ITSM Process Implementation is about the Return or value on Investment for implementing the process(es). The "benefits shown" by the Consultants are neither enough nor understandable by the companies' leaders. Having dealt with "just" managing day-to-day issues, such as incidents and projects, some of them are blinded by the thing they can see, blocking the long term vision. As every one of them feel that their Organization is completely different form the others, they would like not to believe the benefits accrued to other organization.

One point which normally opens their eyes (or at least one of the eyes) is the "Cost of non-Compliance". It might be easy for the Consultants to bring the "case Studies" of losses to organizations to "imply" the losses, which the Organization may suffer. Prima facia, this would look far fetched to the leaders initially, but would definitely change the point-of-view. Later, the perceived benefits can be added as the icing on the cake. This is what the Security/ ISO27001 consultants do.
